A total lunar eclipse on April 15th 2014 marked the beginning of a remarkable series of eclipses all visible from North America.

Due to its reddish colour, a totally eclipsed moon is sometimes referred to as a “blood moon”. In addition, in the 2010s the media started to associate the term “blood moon” with the four full moons of a lunar tetrad, especially the 2014–2015 tetrad coinciding with the feasts of Passover and Tabernacles. A lunar tetrad is a consecutive sequence of four lunar eclipses, spaced six months apart.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the sun, Earth and moon are aligned (in “syzygy”) exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can occur only the night of a full moon. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon’s location relative to its orbital nodes.

Unlike a solar eclipse, which can be viewed only from a certain relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the Earth. A lunar eclipse lasts for a few hours, whereas a total solar eclipse lasts for only a few minutes at any given place, due to the smaller size of the Moon’s shadow. Also unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions, as they are dimmer than the full moon.

Parts of the world including the Americas and Australia witnessed the first of four total eclipses. The lunar eclipses will take place roughly every six months for the next two years, known as ‘tetrad’. This is very rare and the next one will be in 2032.

Tonight’s total lunar eclipse is the first of a string of four that will fall consecutively on Jewish high holy days.
* First Day of Passover, April 15, 2014
* First Day of Sukkoth, Oct. 8, 2014
* First Day of Passover, April 4, 2015
* First Day of Sukkoth, Sept. 28, 2015
This is called a Tetrad. Whenever this happened in the past, enormous events took place in Jewish history. With four appearing back to back on Jewish feast days is really something to write home about.
Three sets of blood-red moons have corresponded to significant events in Jewish history:
The Spanish Inquisition final year 1492 when the Alhambra Decree ordered all remaining Jews who would not convert to Christianity to leave Spain, ( by the way, a place called America was discovered the following year of 1493, creating a safe haven for the Jews), the 1948 War of Independence, when Israel became a nation and the 1967 Six-Day War, when Jerusalem was reunited under Jewish control, had back-to-back, blood-red moons occur on the first day of Passover and Sukkot the following two years or beginning the same year of the 1967 Six-Day War for two years.
The Spanish Inquisition — 1492
* Passover, April 2, 1493
* Sukkoth, Sept. 25, 1493
* Passover, March 22, 1494
* Sukkoth, Sept. 15, 1494
The War of Independence — 1948
* Passover, April 13, 1949
* Sukkoth, Oct. 7, 1949
* Passover, April 2, 1950
* Sukkoth, Sept. 26, 1950
The Six-Day War — 1967
* First Day of Passover, April 24, 1967
* First Day of Sukkoth, Oct. 18, 1967
* First Day of Passover. April 13, 1968
* First Day of Sukkoth, Oct. 6, 1968
Adding to the enormous significance this year, Christians are entering Holy Week, which culminates on Ressurection Sunday which celebrates Jesus Christ’s triumphant victory over death.
Some consider it nothing more than an alignment of the heavens, but others are watching much more closely, because of the alignment with biblical prophecy.
No, no one is setting a date or time for the rapture nor the second-coming of Christ. We are just saying that we should pay more attention to what God is saying to us. Usually, the blood-red moon signifies a bad omen for Israel and turmoil for the world. I don’t know exactly what is going to happen — I just know something historic is going to happen.
The Book of Genesis says that God uses the sun, the moon and the stars for signs and seasons. Examples can be found throughout the bible. in the course of the next two years we should keep our eyes on the Middle East. Something involving Israel will likely happen and change the course of world history.
